1. Based on the information in Chapter 6, I would want to teach in a classroom with more technology because technology can be utilized in the classroom in so many ways. I think the most useful technologies for me as an English teacher would be electronic whiteboards, data projection units, and microphones. I could use an electronic whiteboard to allow for more student interaction in the classroom. A data projection unit would be useful in the display of class notes as I delivered a lecture. A microphone would be useful to ensure that my voice projects to the back of the classroom so that all students can hear and understand what I am saying. Because I could make use of technology in so many ways, I would prefer to teach in a classroom which provided these resources.
2. One traditional audio technology is the talking book. This could be used in the classroom to allow my students to listen to books on tape. In Chapter 11, it is mentioned that talking books can add "an auditory dimension" to books. Some students retain more information if they can hear it, and so this technology would be useful for them. An emerging audio technology is internet radio. This technology could be used if I were to teach students about journalism and different forms of media. A traditional visual technology is printed material. As an English teacher, I will be using a great deal of this material in my classroom. An emerging visual technology is a digital projector. I could use this technology to project class notes to enhance student learning.
